April Updates

Awards Recital
May 19, Thursday
6:00 P.M
Dollarhide's Music Center

I love recitals! I cannot wait to present this fine group of students to their families. Most students have been working on a Showtune and a Classical song. Help me by reminding your student both songs will be performed by memory. This will be a fun evening with refreshments afterward. Awards will be presented this night as well to honor those who have dedicated so much time to enjoying music.

Here is what you can do to help. Encourage your child to have fun playing their song and make sure they are memorizing their music early. Bill Dollarhide has allowed my students to visit the store and play their songs on the actual piano they will perform on. This can be done at your convenience anytime the week before or the week of the recital. Please make sure this happens. Everyone will feel much better if your student has had the chance to be on that stage before the recital night. Lastly, the dress for the recital is semi-formal. Boys should wear a shirt and tie or a coat and tie. No shorts or tennis shoes, please. Girls should wear a Sunday dress, formal, or nice skirt and top. No flip-flops, please. I think everyone will enjoy this night.

Please note there is a $5 per student Recital Fee added to the May tuition to help cover the costs of this recital. This is stated in the studio policies.

Student Day

Sat, April 30th
Pensacola State College

Student Day is an exciting event that may be new to some families. Once a student has completed a level in his lesson books (Level 1; Level 2A +2B; Level 3A+3B, etc.) he may enter Student Day and show off all he has learned. He will be asked to play 2 or 3 songs by memory. He will take a theory test covering material he has learned this past year. He will also take an aural test to build his ear training. (I will provide a CD for home study.) A performance time will be assigned once he is registered, much like Sonata Contest. The great part about this event is that it is not cramming new material to participate. It is a time to celebrate all he has learned this past year. Depending on his ranking, he will receive a certificate of a medal. Outstanding performers have the opportunity to play at on Honors Recital, the following week. I will let you know if you student is ready to enter this event this year. For most students this will be an every other year event. Look forward to more good results!

Summer Lessons

I will be offering summer lessons starting Wednesday July 6th and Thursday July 7th. Lessons will only be offered on Wednesday and Thursdays. Should enrollment exceed those times, I will open up another day. I do know families vacation and travel during this time. However, to keep my sanity, I will only be able to offer one make up lesson due to travels during summer lessons.
This is a great time to make more progress in Lesson books, even finish them! I introduce the basics of composing and help every student write their first song!

Forms will go home soon for those interested.
