Sonata Contest Announcements
As you know, Sonata Contest is Saturday, March 9th at UWF. This Saturday, March 2nd I'll be having a "Practice Sonata Contest" at my house from 11:15-12:15.(4010 King Arthur Dr. 32514) If you would like your student to come, please reply or sign-up during lessons this week. Your student should expect to stay for the entire hour as hearing others is a great motivation. This is great especially if your student is entering Sonata Contest for the first time. It'll give him a good run through under some pressure before the contest the following week. Due to the amount of pianist attending, I prefer you drop off your student and pick him up at 12:15. Thank you for understanding.
Please talk with your student about how competition works. Each student has an assigned time and plays privately for a judge. No one else is allowed in the room. Once he is done, he should immediately go to the awards area (follow signs to the Mainstage Theatre) and wait until his section is called. All students will receive some type of award. Should your child win 1st place, he is asked to perform at the Winners Recital at Dollarhide's Music Center the following Saturday. Info will be given at the awards ceremony if he wins 1st place. Each one is going against other students in his same level playing the same song. Many times ALL the students come with their songs perfect and polished which makes awarding 1st, 2nd, and 3rd very difficult. There will always be rejoicing and there will always be tears. This is a good time to help your child learn to handle situations like this. I don't put any expectations on them, except to play as perfectly as they can. I'll look for positive feedback on their judges sheet regardless of placement.
Directions:
Take University Parkway North to UWF until it ends at College Dr. Turn LEFT onto College Dr at the light. Follow this bending road until your see tennis courts on your right. Just pass the tennis courts is the Center for Fine and Performing Arts on your RIGHT. There are parking lots all around. Enter through the front entrance by the Water Fountain and Ticket Booth. No need to check in unless you need assistance. Proceed to your performance room with your music. Sonata t-shirts will be available that day with your students name on the back. Snacks will available for purchase. There are plenty of restaurants on 9 mile rd if you need lunch. You probably won't see me that day. I'm co-chair this year, so I'll be working in the office and behind the scenes. Not announcing awards this year. =( Have my cell phone number on hand in case you need to get a hold of me for an emergency. I'll definitely try to slip out and help if I can.
