Happy New Year (Christmas Recital Pics and Look at What's to Come

I trust everyone had a Merry Christmas. We drove to Indiana and back to visit my in-laws. We all had a great time. I look forward to having everyone back next week when school resumes. As you prepare for the New Year I wanted to share some things:

1. Federation Festival
If you student is entering in Federation Festival, make sure they are playing that song a lot this week. They need to come as ready as possible on their Federation song when lessons resume. Then I can help them polish and memorize it.The only have 5 lessons before Festival. Don't let them delay.
Remember their is a mandatory rehearsal for Festival Feb 1 at my house.

2. Features Apps  - Piano Maestro for Ipad and Compound Time in the App Store
Piano Maestro is like Guitar Hero, but to piano songs.
Compound Time is a World Wide Practice Log. It shows you how long you have been working on a piece and you can see what others around the world are working on.

3. The Power of Listening
"When I was taking piano lessons" we didn't have youtube and books didn't come with CDs. A teacher would have to pay $15-20 just for a studio demo copy to let students listen to at lessons. Multiply that by 50 students x 3 books each and that means you're broke. Most of the time I had no clue what a song sounded like before I learned it. But now students have CDs to their books and/or Itunes/Youtube. You can help your student succeed by getting them to listen to their music more than once. Have your student listen to their music at least 2-3 different days during the week, not just the first day a song is assigned. Let's make this the year of learning with listening.

4. Registering for Events
Please see your invoice to see how much the entry fee for Federation Festival or Sonata Contest is. Please Please Please have these registration fees in at the first lesson in January. Registration for both events are due soon after the new year.

5. January Tuition
Just a reminder to mail in a check or use paypal (if you haven't already) by January 1st, no later than January 5th.

Here are some pics from the Christmas Recital. I heard such good feedback about the music and the new venue. I'm glad many enjoyed it.

Aubrey was great playing Little Drummer Boy

Everyone enjoyed Mateo's We Three Kings
Megan brought the house down with Carol of the Bells
Stuart presented a crowd favorite, Angels We Have Heard on High
Reece and his dad, Mark, were spectacular on Jingle Bells. What a great team.
Good looking group for the 6:30 recital.
