September News

Music Lessons are back in the swing! I'm so glad to have everyone back. Cobwebs are brushed off and music is happening. Be sure to check in here each month for updates and announcements. The 2015-2016 calendar is up. Be sure to get those dates down.

LABOR DAY, Sept 7
No Music lessons on this holiday. Studio is closed.

TUITION
Tuition is due by the first of each month, A late fee is applied on the following month statement if the tuition is not paid by the 5th of the month. Payments can be made with Paypal, CC, in lessons, or through your bank Billpay.

SCALE CHALLENGE (Short Term Goal)
Most students (except beginners) are working on learning their scales, cadences, and arpeggios. I am having a two month challenge through September and October. Those who complete their list will be able to choose from the prizes (ie, Itunes gift card, TCBY gift card, Starbucks giftcard, pencils, stickers, erasers, etc) This should be a BIG part of their work at  home right now. You'll see a progress chart on my wall when you come in.

30 PIECE CHALLENGE (Long Term Goal)
Most students don't even realize they learn about 30 pieces during the 34 lessons and 2 studio classes that they take in a school year. So motivate them to keep keeping on, I'm putting a 30 Piece Challenge List in their folders. Just like an avid book reader consumes a variety of books (long, short, deep, light, etc) we do the same in our music literature studies. You will be impressed in May to see that list of each piece your student has learned.

BAROQUE FESTIVAL
November 14, Sat at 4pm and 5:30 at Dollarhide's Music Center. Cost $10.
Many students are learning from a Literature book, which includes music from the Baroque Era (1600-1750). Composers like Bach, Scarlatti, and Handel are gracing the studio with their sounds. You DO NOT want to miss the PMTA Baroque Festival this year., Teachers will be dressed in Baroque costumes, a harpsichord will be brought in for students to test before or after the recital. Dancers will be dancing a minuet for us. It will be a great trip in history. Be there. A sign up sheet will be posted in October.

HOME PRACTICE
Parents of K-2 will need to sit down with their child each day to review music and concepts. Students in the 3-5 grade can transition to part of the time with a parent and part of the time independently. Students in 6th grade and up should be able to follow their practice list and set healthy goals to show progress each week. I'M ASKING ALL PARENTS FOR HELP SO THEIR CHILD CAN START OFF WELL. Ask them how they are doing. Ask if they will show you what they are working on. Follow up and see if they are playing 5 days a week minimum. So many patterns for the year are set here in the first 2 months.

I'm so glad to work with your musician. Let me know if I can answer any questions.
